If you have lost your card or it has not been sent out to your registered postal address, the UIDAI website provides a facility to download a duplicate copy. In this article, we will explain the easy and simple steps you can take to get a replacement or duplicate your Aadhar Card.

Why should you have a downloaded a duplicate card?


A downloaded duplicate has the same validity as the original version. It is always useful to have a spare copy. And if you lost or misplaced your original, obtaining a replacement from the website is the easiest way to get a new version

There are two methods to obtain a duplicate:


1) By application receipt number

2) By name

If you have the SMS confirmation that reads ‘Aadhaar Card is processed successfully’, you can easily download.

Steps to download a duplicate online (with an application slip):

1. Go to the website: https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

2. Fill in the basic registration details and your enrolment number, if you have it.

3. Click on ‘Get One Time Password’. This will be sent by SMS.

4. Enter your password at ‘Enter OTP’. Click ‘Validate & Download.'

5. A new page will open giving you the option to ‘Download Aadhaar Card’. A PDF version will be provided. By entering your residence pin code, and clicking ‘Duplicate Aadhaar Card in PDF Format’, you will be able to print off a copy.

6. If there any mistakes present (address, etc.), click here to update your personal details, click on  Update A. Card. Changes can be made in a few simple steps.

How to download a duplicate copy online in case of lost number or misplaced acknowledgement slip?


Just follow the  instructions given below to get a duplicate copy:

• Visit https://resident.uidai.net.in/find-uid-eid

• Choose the suitable option under the heading “You want to receive lost” either “Aadhaar No (UID)” or “Enrolment No (EID)”.          

• Write your name, email address, registered mobile number.

• Enter the security code visible on the screen and click on the “GET OTP” (One Time Password) tab.

• Your OTP will be sent to your email id and also on your mobile number via text message.

• Enter your OTP in the relevant box and click on “VERIFY OTP”.

• You will now receive an SMS with your Card number or Enrolment ID (according to the option chosen by you in the second step).

• Now, visit https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

• Select a suitable option under the heading “I HAVE” – “AADHAR” or “Enrolment ID”.

• Enter your Card Number/ Enrolment ID, Full Name, Mobile Number, Pin Code, Security Text.

• Next, get the OTP on your mobile number or email id following the aforesaid process and enter it in the appropriate box.

• Click on “VALIDATE and DOWNLOAD”.

• You will now receive e-aadhaar downloaded to your system and you just need to enter your pin code as the password to open the card in PDF format.

• You can also take a print out of your card in order to use it as a valid and authentic identity proof and address proof.

Contact UIDAI  method

You can contact the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on a toll-free number 1947 to notify them that you have lost your card. They will assist you in providing the duplicate at your postal address. You will also get the enrolment number sent to your registered mobile via SMS and to your email.

If you find yourself not able to contact UIDAI via phone or through email, please contact the nearby Regional Office to inform them about your lost card and to apply for a replacement.

Take your original documents (along with photocopies) that you submitted at the time of enrolment.

If you find it difficult to reach a Regional Office, you can visit an enrolment centre in person. Remember to take your original and photocopied documents with you.
